about Naadi
Naadi astrology is one of the various forms of Hindu divine astrological sciences. It is a unique and strong proof to the belief that the past, present and the future lives of human beings were foreseen and neatly documented by various light-mastering sages in the ancient times. These light-mastering sages are called as ‘Maharishis’ in almost all Indian languages.
History and travel of the palm leaves
The mighty rulers of Southern Indian kingdoms like Chera, Chola, Pandya, and Pallava were patrons of developing arts, architecture, and literature for the well-being of their posterity. Following their footprints, during their reign, many families effaced their lives to preserve the sciences.
Most of these kings and patrons found a reserve for various kinds of palm-leaf records in their palatial residences, and such noble hearts saved these palm-leaf records from decaying with age. Driven by their passion for the Tamil language, they translated most of the records into Tamil from Sanskrit and preserved them safely for future generations.

Valluvar Clan And Naadi Palm Leaves
Today, families belonging to the Valluvar Clan possess many of these manuscripts, including Naadi Palm Leaves. The original treatise of Naadi astrological predictions is written mainly in the form of ancient Tamil poetry, in an ancient script called Koottezhuthu, which is decipherable only by the Valluvar Clan.
It is believed that about 72 different Maharishis authored several different types of Naadis. Among all types, the ‘Mahashiva Sookshma Naadi’ is the rarest form of Naadi. By the absolute grace of God, we possess the bundles of this Naadi in our Naadi Astrological Centre’s library and guide earnest seekers with its wisdom.
Revival By King Chhatrapati Serfoji Raje Bhonsle – II
Later, the King of the Royal Thanjavur Maratha Kingdom, Chhatrapati Serfoji Raje Bhonsle – II (September 24th, 1777 – March 7th, 1832), took up the task of reviving the forgotten arts from their ruins. He established the famous ‘Saraswati Mahal’ Library, identifying and protecting numerous literary works from palm leaves. Many tattered leaves were preserved using novel methods of safekeeping.
The king recruited protectors and encouraged new research, bringing out various new conclusions. In the due course, the king entrusted the task of protecting these palm leaves to researchers.

Naadi Astrology and Its Mystical Practices
Naadi astrology offers comprehensive insights into the influence of planetary transits and the effects of karma on human life. According to the Shastras, every human being has two main nasal channels: the left nostril, termed ‘Idakala’, associated with the Moon, and the right nostril, termed ‘Pingala’, associated with the Sun. Additionally, there is a third invisible channel called the ‘Sushumna’.
Sages, Siddhas, and Yogis who have mastered mystical powers practice Sushumna breathing techniques to acquire profound spiritual knowledge about the past, present, and future. This practice allows them to understand the intricate connection between karma and its results. Through their great spiritual knowledge, these enlightened beings have documented future events and offered detailed explanations about the world. The Sapta Naadi Kala, consisting of seven subdivisions (Singuvai, Purudan, Kandhaari, Atthi, Alambudai, Sangini, and Guru), enables analysis of the relationship between past karma and its results in this life, providing answers to seekers’ questions based on Naadi breathing practices.
Preservation and Legacy of Naadi Palm Leaves
During the British Raj, British forces attacked palm-leaf libraries and seized many bundles related to various sciences like engineering and medicine. However, they did not grasp the importance of astrological sciences and left behind palm leaves containing individual astrological predictions.
Later, Chhatrapati Serfoji Raje Bhonsle – II (September 24th, 1777 – March 7th, 1832), the king of the Royal Thanjavur Maratha Kingdom, revived these lost arts by establishing the renowned ‘Saraswati Mahal’ Library. He protected many literary works and tattered leaves using innovative safekeeping methods, recruited protectors, and facilitated new research. Today, the Valluvar Clan holds many of these manuscripts, including Naadi Palm Leaves, written in ancient Tamil poetry and the script Koottezhuthu, decipherable only by the clan members.

Tamil Language and Naadi Astrology
Tamil is a language with the presence of life, expressed through its letters: Uyirezhuththukal (letters representing life), Meiezhuththukal (letters representing the body), and Uyirmeiezhuththukal (representing both life and body). Additionally, the Aayutha Ezhuththu letter enables the functioning of the other letters, bringing events to life when read in Tamil poetry. Predictions in Naadi astrology are composed in poetic forms like Anthaadhi and Viruththam, which are ancient and challenging to recite.
The Power of Naadi Astrology
Naadi Astrology holds a supreme place among astrological sciences and is regarded as the mother of all astrological Shastras. It reflects one’s past life karmas, offering solutions for overcoming life’s challenges through prescribed Parihaaras. The knowledge of Sages, Siddhas, and Yogis, who mastered Sushumna breathing techniques, connects karma with its results, revealing the intricate interplay of human actions and their consequences.
The Sapta Naadi Kala and Its Divisions
The Sapta Naadi Kala consists of seven subdivisions: Singuvai, Purudan, Kandhaari, Atthi, Alambudai, Sangini, and Guru. These mystical divisions allow sages to analyze the relationship between past lives’ karma and their outcomes in this life, offering detailed explanations of planetary transits and their effects. Naadi astrology is deeply rooted in this system of breathing practices.
Preservation of Naadi Palm Leaves
During the British Raj, many palm-leaf bundles related to sciences like engineering and medicine were taken, but astrological palm leaves were left behind. Later, Chhatrapati Serfoji Raje Bhonsle – II revived these records and protected them in the Saraswati Mahal library. Today, the Valluvar Clan possesses these Naadi palm leaves, written in Koottezhuthu script and decipherable only by them. The Mahashiva Sookshma Naadi, one of the rarest forms, is part of their collection, along with other Naadis like Mahashiva Tulya Naadi, Jeeva Naadi, and Prashna Naadi.
Vaitheeswaran Koil
Naadi astrology is believed to have originated in the temple town called as ‘Vaitheeswaran Kovil’. It is sometimes referred to as ‘Pullirukkuvelur’ also. This town is located in Nagapattinam District, in Tamil Nadu State, at 27 KMs distance from the world-famous Chidambaram temple.
The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The presiding deity here is worshipped in the form of ‘Vaidyeshwara’ (in Sanskrit) or ‘Vaitheeswaran’ (in Tamil). The term ‘Vaitheeswaran’ in Tamil means the ‘God of Doctors’ or ‘The Supreme Healer’. It is believed that prayers to Lord Vaitheeswaran cure all kinds of diseases.
Goddess Thaiyalnayaki Devi, an avatar of Goddess Parvathi Devi is the consort of Lord Vaitheeswaran here. She accompanies and assists him as a nurse. She bears a pot containing ‘Thailam’ (herbal oil) on her head. Further, this temple is one of the Navagraha (nine planets) temples; and is associated with the planet Mars (Angaaraka).
